backyard movie night and campout

Source: google.com via Emily on Pinterest

This long holiday weekend I am looking forward to many things, graduation, happy hours, Taste of Cincinnati...but the one thing I am most excited about is camping out with my boys in my mom's backyard. I have so much stuff planned including a movie night with my nieces and Goddaughter complete with popcorn and treats, s'mores over a fire and fun lawn games!!

What a fun way to bring in summer.

What are your plans for the holiday weekend?

May Sample Boxes

May sample boxes have been something like spectacular!

My Shade of  Brown sent some yummy samples for body and hair. The mango body wash smells so delightful and the body oil is so rich. I can't wait to try the highly pigmented eye shadow on my next night out.

curlBox, curlBox, curlBox. It was the founder's birthday month and not did she outdo herself! 3 full size products that so far have been amazing on my hair.

This was my first Birchbox and I have to say I wasn't that impressed. The only thing I like was the Ojon hair repair. 'm thinking if they looked at my account they would have known that I don't need anti-aging cream. I will stay a member for a few more months to see if I like it but if not I will be canceling my subscription.

Do any of you get sample boxes?
What has been your experience?

weekend snapshots

Friday, we visited our community garden and was so shocked by the growth of our collard greens and broccoli. We harvested collards and spinach for the weekend and even spotted some strawberries starting to ripen.

We went out in OTR and had dinner at the delicious LAVOMATIC. The service was amazing and the food had so much flavor and was beautifully presented. Scott ordered the fish tacos and said they were the best he ever tasted. The basil crusted mac and cheese was also delicious.

Saturday, Roman had his last soccer game and was so proud of his trophy. I did a little shopping at the mall and just relaxed.

Sunday, my dear Sorority sister earned her MD from The University of Cincinnati.

What an amazing weekend and we have a ton planned for this upcoming Memorial Day!

I hope you all have a great week.

my Boys, my boys...Proud Mommy Moments...Spring Edition

Roman has gotten through his first season of organized sports... SOCCER.
He loved it! (we are still working on removing the finger from his mouth)

Roman turned 4 and had a blast at his Bowling Party!

Tre' ran track for the first year and had an amazing season!
He made new friends and we now know what sport works for him!

Tre' did phenomal in his end of year school musical!
He was such a dapper little gent.

These little boys bring so much joy to my life. It's truly amazing to watch them grown and enjoy life.
I thank God for blessing me.

free online college courses

While on my way into work yesterday I was listening to my normal station, NPR and came across this beneficial story. I had to share!
Coursera, is a website that allows you to sign up for free online courses from stop universities like PENN, Stanford, and Princenton. No books just online lectures, quizzes, tests and discussions.

I am signing up for a couple and will share my exeprience. I have been out of the classroom since 2005 when I earned my BA so this will be a great way to ease back in and to see if I'm really going to pursue a Masters. What an innovative idea!

This should be fun!

Let me know if you sign up.

more growth and the super moon

Over the weekend the boys and I observed new growth with the seeds we planted in our patio trays
okra

tomato

green and yellow peas

We are still waiting on some more sprouts then we will be transporting these to our community garden box and various family member's gardens.

We can't wait for harvest time!!

Did anyone else get a chance to see Saturday's Super Moon?

HAPPY MONDAY!

growing our own food

collards April 20th

collards May 3rd

Our community garden box is doing really well. We have had a combination of great sun and great rain.
Our collards have made great progress in just a few short weeks. We have spinach growing in the middle and broccoli further up. Our flowers and succulents are spreading pretty well and we see little sprouts with the onions, peas and carrots.
We will see about the strawberries- I hope to get at least a few!

It's amazing how much fun it is to plant a seed in the ground and watch it grow! talk about farm to table.
We are looking forward to making delicious spinach salads this summer.

Scott and I were talking last night about how efficient it would be if we could collect seeds and send them to places that lacked food. People could come together to try to grow food to sustain their family and their communities.

What a thought...
