Thoroughly Modern ...Fabulous!!!

While sipping on a little wine and flipping through the channels Friday night, I came across a movie (and play) I had heard of before but had never seen. Thoroughly Modern Millie filmed in 1967 tells the story of Millie Dillmount, a naive young woman who finds herself in the midst of a series of madcap adventures when she sets her sights on marrying her wealthy boss in the 1920s (wiki).

Not only do I LOVE this awesomely quirky movie but the costumes were fabulous!!

Take a look..

I even love the fashion of the sweet Miss Dorothy Brown played by Mary Tyler Moore, who seeks a life on the stage as an actress. She likes to wear light pastels and soft materials like chiffon and lace ( you know I love the ever feminine chiffon and lace).

Even the men looked stunning with their tailored suits and stunning pipes!!

I would love to see some details of the the 1920s flapper fashion return!!

PS
Watch the youtube clip...it's very interesting to see Millie's fashion transformation from the opening of the film.

Let's Play House

Today I came across these wonderful playhouses in missprettypretty's etsy Shop and they have me super excited!! I love any toy that truly promotes imaginative play. I think she has captured childhood perfectly. I am going to get one of these for the boys for Christmas. They will make the perfect gift. My personal favorite is the Neighborhood Cafe. There is so much detail in her designs. I just can't resist...

{Click on the names under the pictures to see more details}

These would make the perfect gift for the little one's in your life...

Home Fragrance Obession...Spring Fever

The Body Shop's Satsuma products are nothing short of fabulous. With fragrant notes of fresh orange accord, pineapple, grapefruit, orange, mandarin, sherbert, plum...this fragrance enlivens my senses during these drab cold days. I am so ready for Spring!!

Art Inspired... I'm Inspired

This weekend my life seems to be revolving around art and music. Last night, after a romantic wine tasting date night with the hubby at Whole Foods (well actually, to our surprise, they did beer tasting and we LOVED it) I headed downtown with a girlfriend of mine to the Contemporary Art Center of Cincinnati. We went for the ultra fun, opening night party for Shepard Fairey, the artist who is recently best known for creating the iconic Obama image. He even DJ'ed for awhile at the party and it was AWESOME!!!

On top of that ultra fabulous evening out this weekend happens to be Fine Arts Fund Sampler Weekend. There will be free art events happening all over the city today and tomorrow and I plan on bringing the boys to The Cincinnati Museum Center to see performances by The Boys Choir and The Cincinnati Black Theatre.

With all this wonderful art surrounding me I have been inspired to do a little art project of my own!!! This idea came from Jennifer over at  Made By Girl. I have all the supplies I need right here at home so I am going to get out some canvas and paint, I printed the lyrics to our wedding theme song and I am going to make a piece that I will hang going up our steps or maybe over our bed. Here is what she made.

I will post pictures of my final piece soon.

Stay Inspired!!
Happy Saturday

XOXO WEEKEND WRAP UP

We had an absolutely fantastic weekend. Instead of spending it with just the four of us we decided to host a dinner for our parents for Valentine's Day. It was our way of saying thank you for all the support and love they show our little family day in and day out! We prepared something warm and inviting and in the spirit of New Orleans.

On the menu:
  • Mushroom stuffed turnovers and Cheese Puffs with jalapeno bits, and meat and cheese appetizers
  • Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee
  • Greens
  • Warm French Bread
  • Red Velvet Cupcakes
  • Chocolate Covered Strawberries
  • Champagne and Wine

(starting my roux)
(cutting all the seasonings)

(hubby peeling and backing the shrimp and crawfish)

(I used The Neely's Red Velvet Cake Recipe)

The weekend wouldn't have been complete without some fun Valentine decor!!

(my red feather wreath and gold heart ornaments)

(heart pillows and a teddy I made fo Tre' when he was born...)

(beautiful pure white roses)

(fun placemat I found and made into our center piece-I placed the roses in the center)

(besides the very awesome New Orleans cookbook I received from My mom she also gave me this very cute apron and pot holders to match)

(Sunday morning I made heart shaped pancakes, spinach eggs, and potatoes and onions for the family and me and my honey shared some yummy sweet mimosas)

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend!
Continue to celebrate love always!!
