I have been hearing great things about having to try fried green tomatoes. I happened to be flipping through my Neely's cookbook and came across a very delicious recipe!!! I headed to Findlay Market, picked up some tomatoes, headed to TJ's for buttermilk, and I had everything else I needed at home.
Step 1: Slice about 1/4 inch thick and season the tomatoes with salt and pepper, I think I added some other seasonings to the mix.
*Note: Make sure the tomatoes are very hard, so that they don't fall apart when frying.
Step 2: Take the tomatoes one by one and toss in flour, then buttermilk mixture, then in panko bread crumbs
Step 3: Fry in vegetable oil for about 2 minutes each side until golden brown
Step 4: Remove from pan and lay on paper towel to soak up some of the oil....
Eat them while they are hot.
They were so so delicious. For dipping, I made a lime and basil mayo with some of the fresh basil I have been growing and it just topped it off!! This was a perfect summer recipe, and my hubby's grandmother even enjoyed them.
Here is one of their recipes off foodnetwork.com...I will have to also upload the one I used from their cookbook.

Ronita
